Fresh Pressed Chicago (501c) is the brainchild of three friends who noticed a need for more positive news from areas in Chicago that usually get bad press. While the city struggles to resolve its issues, the stories about gun violence, budget cuts, and political mayhem tell only one side of the story about Chicago’s urban communities. Fresh Pressed Chicago hosts a monthly pop-up potluck brunch to prompt local people, organizations and media to reclaim and reshape the way our stories are being told to the world. We hope this will be a resource to arm our communities with positive stories that boost moral, instill pride, and drive inspiration towards a course of positive actions and change.
The Socialiser: Communications Director
“The same way we consciously SPEND our time and money on businesses and organizations that boost our local economy, so should we PAY attention to what stories we consume and tell ourselves and each other. Positive stories about people, places and progressive work in our communities are minimal at best in our news sharing culture. Thankfully, we have the power to CHANGE that.”
The Difficult One: The Creative Director
“We love our home, we love our community, and we love the Southside of Chicago. Fresh Pressed is our way to honor, show respect, and celebrate the people in our community.”
The Visualiser: The Art Director
“At each monthly brunch there is a special energy and light that shines on everyone that attends. You can feel the love and tranquility during our time together, I try and capture every moment through my lens.”
